I never fault anyone for lack of interest in roasts, but insult comedy demands a very particular skill set. Making great jokes out of standard, hack premises and commonly understood information about celebrities is not easy.

Some people, of course, make it look that way. Watching all of these back-to-back reawakened my appreciation for stalwarts Jeff Ross and the late Greg Giraldo. Both of them, such ease with the style, such great presence and impressive consistency.
